Zakynthos has a long, warm season from spring to autumn. The “best” time depends on what you want — hot beach days, quieter prices, or turtle nesting. Here’s how the year breaks down.

Spring (April–May): green, calm and great value

The island is lush, the weather is pleasantly warm, and prices and crowds are low. The sea is still cool for long swims in April but comfortable by late May. Ideal for hiking, jeep safaris and photography. Boat tours run and the sea is calm.

Early summer (June): the sweet spot

Long sunny days, warm sea, everything open, and not yet peak-crowded. Many locals consider June the best all-round month to visit Zakynthos.

Peak summer (July–August): hot and lively

The hottest, busiest and most expensive months, with guaranteed sun and a warm sea. Book tours and accommodation ahead. Start boat trips early to beat the heat and the crowds at Shipwreck Beach. This is also peak turtle nesting season.

Early autumn (September–October): still summer, fewer people

September is a favourite — warm sea, softer light, thinner crowds and lower prices, with everything still open. October cools gradually and some businesses wind down toward the end of the month.

Winter (November–March): very quiet

Most tourist businesses close and boat tours don’t run. Fine for a cultural town break, but not a beach trip.

When is turtle season?

Loggerhead turtles nest in Laganas Bay roughly from June to August, with hatchlings later in summer. If seeing turtles matters most, aim for that window and take a turtle-spotting tour.
